The Sigma 16mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary for Fujifilm X is a fast wide-angle prime for APS-C cameras, giving a 24mm equivalent view with an F1.4 aperture. It is a well-proven design that stays sharp wide open, which suits night skies, interiors and low-light street photography.
Image quality
There are 16 elements in 13 groups, including three FLD, two SLD and two aspherical elements, which keep the lens sharp across the frame even at F1.4 and hold back colour fringing and coma. Super Multi-Layer Coating cuts flare against bright light, and a nine-blade rounded aperture gives smooth background blur.
Autofocus and video
The focus group is light, so the stepping motor can move it quickly and almost silently, which suits video as well as stills. Focusing is internal, and the mount has a seal against dust and splashes.
Size and close focus
It weighs 405g and takes 67mm filters. The minimum focus distance is 25cm, for a maximum magnification of 1:9.9.
Who it's for
This is for Fujifilm shooters who want a fast 24mm equivalent for street, travel, astro and low-light work. It is a sizeable lens for its focal length, so if weight matters more, the Sigma 15mm F1.4 DC for Fujifilm X is about half the weight. The X-T5, X-S20 and X-T50 have in-body stabilisation; the lens has none of its own.
