The Sigma 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary for Sony E is a compact full-frame ultra-wide zoom with a constant F2.8 aperture. At 450g it is about the size of many F4 wide zooms, and on an a7 IV, a7C II or a7R V it suits landscapes, travel, interiors and vlogging.

Optical design

There are 16 elements in 11 groups, including five FLD and four aspherical elements, to control colour fringing and distortion.

Inner zoom

The lens stays the same length as you zoom, which keeps a gimbal balanced and makes it feel solid in the hand.

Filters

Unlike most ultra-wide F2.8 zooms it takes standard 72mm screw-in filters, so polarisers and ND filters are easy to use.

Build

The barrel uses Sigma's Thermally Stable Composite, and the mount has a rubber seal against dust and splashes. A quiet stepping motor handles autofocus for stills and video.
