Image quality
At the heart of the Z5IIc is a 24.5MP full-frame BSI CMOS sensor paired with Nikon's EXPEED 7 processor - the same processing engine used in Nikon's flagship Z8 and Z9. That combination delivers clean, detailed stills and confident low-light performance well beyond a typical entry-level camera, along with in-body 5-axis vibration reduction rated to 7.5 stops, so handheld shots stay sharp even in dim conditions.

Autofocus & speed
Autofocus is genuinely impressive for a camera at this price. Nikon's deep-learning AI system recognises ten subject types - people, dogs, cats, birds, vehicles, aircraft and even fish - and tracks them automatically across the frame. Continuous shooting runs up to 14fps, and Pre-Release Capture buffers up to a second of frames before the shutter is even pressed, making fast-moving moments - a pet mid-leap, a child blowing out candles - much easier to catch.

Easy to learn
For anyone still finding their feet with manual settings, the Z5IIc is the first full-frame Nikon to put dedicated Scene Modes on the mode dial - 15 presets covering portraits, pets, food and night landscapes, which automatically adjust white balance, Picture Control and other settings. There's also a fully automatic AI mode that reads the scene and sets exposure and focus, plus Imaging Recipes for saving and recalling favourite preset looks.

Video
Video is well specified too: 4K UHD up to 60fps (with a DX crop), Full HD at up to 120fps for slow motion, and support for H.265 10-bit and N-Log for anyone who wants more flexibility grading footage later. A dedicated Product Review Mode keeps focus smooth when switching between talking to camera and holding up an object, and the camera doubles as a USB webcam without extra software.

Build
Build quality doesn't feel cut back to hit the price: the body uses magnesium alloy reinforcement, is dust- and drip-resistant, and the 3.2-inch vari-angle touchscreen handles like a smartphone, flattening the learning curve further still.
