This kit pairs the EOS R8 Mark II with Canon's RF 24-105mm F4-7.1 IS STM, a compact everyday zoom that covers wide-angle shots through to short telephoto portraits without a lens change. Camera and lens together are built around the same idea: full-frame image quality that's genuinely easy to carry and use, whether you're travelling, shooting everyday life, or picking up video alongside stills.
The 24.2MP full-frame sensor and DIGIC X processor give you the wider dynamic range, cleaner high-ISO performance and shallower depth of field that full-frame shooters buy into, at a native sensitivity of ISO 100–102,400 (expandable to ISO 50–204,800). The body itself weighs around 499g, close to an APS-C DSLR, and paired with this 395g lens the whole kit comes in under 900g, light enough to carry all day without a second thought.
The original EOS R8 had no in-body stabilisation at all. The Mark II fixes that with up to 7.5 stops of 5-axis in-body IS, and this lens adds its own 5-stop optical stabilisation on top, working together for noticeably steadier handheld stills and video, particularly at the long end of the zoom where camera shake is hardest to avoid.
Switch to the electronic shutter and you're shooting at up to 40fps, with a bigger buffer than the original R8: over 1,000 JPEG or RAW frames back to back. Pre-continuous shooting goes further still: half-press the shutter and the camera's already holding up to 20 frames from just before you committed, so a kid, a pet or a wildlife sighting that catches you off guard doesn't necessarily get away.
Dual Pixel CMOS AF II tracks people, animals (dogs, cats, birds, horses) and vehicles across almost the whole frame, and works down to -7.5 EV in low light. Register People Priority lets you tell the camera which faces matter most, handy at a wedding, a party or a school sports day when the frame's full of people and only one of them is yours.
4K UHD up to 60p is oversampled from 6K for extra sharpness, and Full HD slow motion runs up to 180fps. Canon Log 3, PQ and HLG are available through Custom Picture for anyone who wants to grade footage properly, and the STM motor in this lens is quiet and smooth enough not to intrude on audio while focusing during a shot.
At 24mm you get proper wide-angle coverage for interiors, landscapes and street scenes; by 105mm you're close enough for portraits and detail shots, all from one lens you won't need to swap out mid-trip. It has a 67mm filter thread and focuses down to 20cm at the wide end, 34cm at the tele end, so it copes with close-up detail shots as well as the wider stuff. Buying it as part of this kit works out cheaper than buying body and lens separately, and means you're ready to shoot the moment you open the box.
If you already own RF-mount lenses, or would rather build your own kit around something like the RF 16-28mm or RF 100-400mm, our body-only listing is the better starting point.
