The Tamron 16-50mm F2.8 A is the compact, affordable option in Tamron's two-lens F2.8 standard zoom range for Fujifilm X-mount - sitting below the existing 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A VC for anyone who'd rather prioritise size, weight and price over extra reach and stabilisation.
Zoom range
16-50mm gives a 24-75mm full-frame equivalent field of view on Fujifilm's APS-C sensor - wide enough for landscapes, interiors and group shots, with a useful portrait length at 50mm. The constant F2.8 aperture means brightness doesn't drop as you zoom in, unlike a typical variable-aperture kit lens.
Size and weight
At 305g and 79.9mm long with a 64.4mm diameter and 55mm filter thread, it's built to match compact X-mount bodies like the X-T50, X-S20 and X100-style form factor without feeling front-heavy, and it's light enough to carry on a strap all day.
Autofocus
Focus is handled by Tamron's VXD linear motor, giving fast, accurate and quiet autofocus for both stills and video. Note that the Fujifilm X version of this lens doesn't support Tamron Lens Utility (unlike the Sony E and Nikon Z versions), so firmware updates and custom function assignment aren't available on this mount.
Close focusing and bokeh
Minimum focus distance runs from 15cm at 16mm to 29cm at 50mm, good for close-up shots of food, flowers or small details while keeping a recognisable wide background. The F2.8 aperture and 7-blade circular diaphragm give soft, rounded bokeh at the telephoto end for portraits and close-up work.
Build and handling
Moisture-resistant construction with barrel seals and a sealed USB-C port protects against light rain and dust, and the front element has a fluorine coating that repels water and oil and wipes clean easily. The redesigned front cap has strap holes on both sides so it can be tethered to the camera rather than carried loose.
Who it's for
This suits an X-T50, X-S20 or similar X-mount shooter who wants to move on from their kit zoom and into F2.8 brightness and background blur without a big step up in size, weight or cost. It's particularly good for travel and street photography, where its small size makes it easy to carry all day. If you'd rather have in-lens stabilisation and a longer reach and don't mind the extra size and cost, Tamron's 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A VC Fuji X is the lens to look at instead.

No - this lens has no built-in Vibration Compensation (VC). It relies on in-body stabilisation if your camera has it; on a camera without IBIS there's no stabilisation for stills, though the fast F2.8 aperture helps offset this by allowing faster shutter speeds in lower light.
It has moisture-resistant construction, with seals around the lens barrel and a sealed USB-C port, plus a fluorine-coated front element that repels water and oil. This isn't the same as full weather-sealing, so it's fine for light rain and dusty conditions but not for sustained heavy exposure.
55mm.
15cm at the 16mm end and 29cm at the 50mm end, giving maximum magnification ratios of 1:4.5 and 1:4.8 respectively.
A flower-shaped hood, front cap and rear cap. The front cap has a newly designed strap hole on each side, so it can be tethered to your camera strap instead of carried loose.
It's Tamron's smallest F2.8 standard zoom to date. Exact figures vary slightly by mount: around 305g and under 80mm long for Sony E, Fujifilm X and Canon RF, and 315g / 81.6mm for Nikon Z, where the Z-mount's wider throat makes for a marginally larger lens.
The 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A VC is longer, heavier and more expensive, but adds built-in Vibration Compensation and a longer zoom reach. The 16-50mm F2.8 A trades that reach and stabilisation for a noticeably smaller, lighter and more affordable lens - pick whichever trade-off suits how you shoot.
No - the Fujifilm X version of this lens isn't compatible with Tamron Lens Utility, so firmware updates and custom function assignment aren't available on this mount.
