Precise Autofocus

Alongside the usual rotation sensor, Sony have included a second sensor to detect the focus lens group position. Collectively, they provide a high level of focus precision and the RDSSM (Ring Drive Super Sonic wave Motor) drive provides power and speed to deliver rapid and accurate focusing.

Intuitive Handling

The click stops on the aperture ring can be easily turned on or off to suit the movie shooting applications – allowing for smoother, quieter and click-free aperture operation. Switch instantly between focusing modes with the AF/MF focus mode switch. The focus hold button is positioned in close proximity to the AF/MF switch for easy access, providing more intuitive handling.

Optical Construction

The optical construction is made up of three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements to significantly reduce chromatic aberration. The technology contributes towards the lens’s incredible optical performance and produces sharp images across the frame. New XA (extreme aspherical) element technology ensures impressive visual expression with natural colouration and highlights.

Combatting Ghosting and Flare

The lenses feature Sony’s Nano AR Coating to minimise ghosting and flare when working with bright light sources, such as backlighting. Sharpness, high contrast and clarity is maintained across the frame in a variety of conditions.

The bright F1.4 aperture allows for optimum use of available light and control over depth of field, making working in low light easy. Paired with the 11-blade circular aperture design, this lens offers an incredible smooth bokeh effect with natural looking highlights.

Protected and Reliable

Sony have implemented dust and moisture sealing to ensure protection and consistent operation in more challenging environments. In light rain and windy conditions, the Sony 85mm lens will continue to deliver high quality performance. The hood has a lock mechanism to prevent accidental hood detachment when on the move, and the hood release button allows for simple attachment and detachment of the hood whenever necessary.
