The Sony 16-35 2.8 is the ideal companion for active shooting. Offering a wide-angle F2.8 16-35mm zoom and advanced optical design, it makes the perfect lens for capturing a variety of photographic applications – from landscape to architecture. With a durable, compact, and lightweight design, photographers can feel confident even in more challenging shooting conditions – the opportunities are endless, and the image quality is breath taking.
Ultra-fast Autofocus
Sony have employed two DDSSM (Direct Drive SSM) systems with the original Sony piezoelectric motors to drive the focus groups in a floating focus configuration. With incredible precision, the mechanism ensures the highest focus accuracy and overall drives a fast, smooth and quiet autofocusing system – ideal for shooting movies with enhanced audio as well as stills.
Convenient Design
To ensure control is comfortable, efficient and intuitive, Sony have incorporated a focus hold button, manual focus ring, an AF/MF switch and other fingertip operation controls to enhance the shooting experience. The focus hold button can be customised with a variety of functions using the body menu to suit the user’s shooting needs.
Superb Lens Configuration
The Sony 16-35 F2.8 lens design features 13 groups and 16 elements, including two XA (eXtreme aspherical) lens elements, three aspherical lens elements, and two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements. The elements are strategically arranged to ensure optimum use of their technology, effectively controlling all types of optical aberrations such as chromatic aberration. Images are consistently clear and sharp across the entire zoom range.
Combatting Ghosting and Flare
The Sony 16-35 2.8 features Sony’s Nano AR Coating to minimise ghosting and flare when working with bright light sources, such as backlighting. Sharpness, high contrast and clarity is maintained across the frame in a variety of conditions.
Beautiful Background Bokeh
With a F2.8 maximum aperture, you can achieve silky smooth background bokeh – beneficial for shooting portraits as the expressive bokeh directs the viewer to the in-focus subject. Paired with an 11-blade circular aperture, bokeh is even further enhanced. The XA elements ensure the unattractive onion-ring bokeh is suppressed so bokeh is continuously beautiful.
Durable and Lightweight Design
Take to more challenging shooting conditions with confidence as the Sony 16-35 2.8 lens features a dust and moisture resistant structure for overall protection and consistent operation. The front lens element features a fluorine coating that prevents dirt and fingerprints from sticking as well as being easy to wipe away if they do. The overall size and weight of the lens, weighing only 680g, ensures easy portability whilst taking full advantage of high-resolution potential for impressive performance in rendering and clarity.

I bought this lens in August 2022 and I have been extremely happy with it. I use it on Sony A7 IV. It produces extremely sharp pictures and performs great in low light environment. It is my all-rounder lens now, which I use for travelling. 16mm allows for great panoramas, while 35mm is good enough for portraits.
I moved from Nikon to Sony, after Nikon stopped offering upgrades for their old 17-35mm F2.8 AF-S.
I do recommend very much Sony 16-35mm F2.8 professional lens to all travellers.
