The Sigma 28-45mm F1.8 DG DN Art for Sony E is a full-frame zoom with a constant F1.8 aperture. Sigma launched it in 2024 as the world's first F1.8 zoom for full frame, and on an a7 IV, a7C II or a7R V it does the job of 28mm, 35mm and 40mm primes in one lens, for weddings, events, documentary and video.
Prime-like brightness
F1.8 at every focal length gives shallow depth of field and fast shutter speeds in dim light, without changing lenses.
Optical design
There are 18 elements in 15 groups, including five SLD and three aspherical elements, with colour fringing and flare kept under control.
Made for video
The inner zoom keeps the length fixed, focus breathing is suppressed, and an HLA linear motor keeps autofocus fast and quiet. It also focuses to 30cm at every focal length.
Controls and build
There is an aperture ring with a click switch and a lock, and two AFL buttons. The body is dust- and splash-resistant, and the front element has a water- and oil-repellent coating.
Who it's for
This is for photographers and filmmakers who would otherwise carry several fast primes. The Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II covers a wider range at F2.8, and the Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG II is the much lighter single-focal-length option.
