The Sigma 16-300mm F3.5-6.7 DC OS Contemporary is the world’s first mirrorless lens with an 18.8x zoom ratio, designed specifically for Sony E-mount APS-C cameras. With a 24-450mm full-frame equivalent focal range, this all-in-one zoom lens is perfect for capturing everything from stunning landscapes to distant wildlife, sports, and aviation—offering unmatched flexibility in a single lens.
A 1:2 maximum magnification at 70mm allows for stunning close-up shots, making it ideal for capturing intricate details of flowers, insects, and small subjects. Additionally, 1:3 magnification at the wide end and 1:4 at the telephoto end provide even more creative shooting possibilities.
Sigma’s advanced High-response Linear Actuator (HLA) motor ensures fast, smooth, and highly precise autofocus, making it ideal for capturing fast-moving subjects like birds, aircraft, and action sports with razor-sharp accuracy.
With Sigma’s OS2 optical stabilization algorithm, the lens provides up to 6 stops of stabilization at 16mm and 4.5 stops at 300mm, significantly reducing camera shake. This allows for sharp, blur-free images even when shooting handheld, in low-light conditions, or at full zoom.
Despite its impressive zoom range, the Sigma 16-300mm F3.5-6.7 DC OS Contemporary is designed for portability, measuring just 73.8mm in diameter, 121.4mm in length, and weighing only 615g. It also features a dust- and splash-resistant construction along with a water- and oil-repellent coating on the front element, ensuring reliability in tough shooting conditions.
Designed with 1 FLD, 4 SLD, and 4 aspherical elements, this lens delivers outstanding image quality by effectively correcting aberrations and ensuring sharp, high-resolution images across the entire focal range. Additionally, advanced coatings reduce flare and ghosting, while suppressed focus breathing makes this lens a great choice for both photography and videography.
For photographers seeking a high-performance, all-in-one zoom lens for travel, wildlife, sports, and everyday shooting, the Sigma 16-300mm F3.5-6.7 DC OS Contemporary for Sony E-Mount delivers exceptional versatility, image quality, and convenience in a compact and lightweight design.

I love this lens.
Prior to purchase I'd seen many positive youtube articles about its performance, the reviewers seemed to be happy accepting the slight limitations associated with a wide range zoom lens, stating they were well within expectations. One final reviewer was not so happy, and even returned his purchase for a refund. This almost deterred me, but I took the plunge anyway and I'm glad. Yes, at full zoom it'll be a bit limited in low light, but otherwise it performed better than I expected. Very slight chromatic aberration can be seen on dark edges against white backgrounds when pixel-peeping towards the edges, but not a problem, and this is a £600 relatively compact lens, not a £3000+ monster!
One point to be born in mind, I use the lens with a Sony a6400 and first time I used a Sigma lens (i.e. a non-Sony lens) the in-camera automatic aberration and distortion correction was defaulted to "Off", so make sure your own camera has these or it comparable setting changed to "On". Perhaps the negative review had this setting disabled?
Great lens - I recommend this for those days you need that zoom flexibility with extra reach, and don't want to lens-swap, and the 18-50mm F2.8 Sigma for indoors, or outdoor when the the better aperture is more useful than tons of zoom.
Oh, and the build quality feels and looks superb.
