  • Full-frame 14mm ultra-wide with an F1.4 aperture
  • Coma corrected to the corners for star photography
  • Three FLD, one SLD and four aspherical elements
  • HLA linear motor autofocus
  • Aperture ring with lock and click switch, AFL button
  • Rear filter holder and lens heater retainer
  • Detachable Arca-Swiss compatible tripod socket

The Sigma 14mm F1.4 DG DN Art for Sony E is a full-frame ultra-wide prime made for the night sky. Sigma launched it in 2023 as the first 14mm lens with an F1.4 aperture, so it gathers far more light than the usual F2.8 ultra-wide zooms. On an a7 IV, a7C II or a7R V it suits Milky Way landscapes, aurora, dark interiors and dramatic architecture.

Built for astrophotography

Sigma corrected sagittal coma flare right to the corners at F1.4, so stars near the edge of the frame stay as points rather than smears. A lens heater retainer at the front keeps a dew strap in place on long, cold nights.

Optical design

There are 19 elements in 15 groups, including three FLD, one SLD and four aspherical elements. The front aspherical element is 79mm across, which Sigma describes as the largest in its class, and it is what keeps distortion and corner shading under control at such a wide angle.

Controls and handling

An aperture ring with a lock and a click on/off switch, an assignable AFL button and a manual focus lock switch are all on the barrel. A detachable Arca-Swiss compatible tripod socket helps balance the lens on a tripod head, and the body is dust- and splash-resistant.

Filters

The petal hood is built in, so there is no front filter thread. Sheet filters fit a rear holder, and the locking cover cap has slots to store them.

Who it's for

This is the specialist choice for night-sky and landscape photographers who need the widest view at the brightest aperture. If you want something lighter that takes standard 82mm screw-in filters, the Sigma 20mm F1.4 DG DN is the alternative, and the Sigma 15mm F1.4 DG DN Diagonal Fisheye covers a full 180 degrees.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Sigma 14mm F1.4 good for astrophotography?

Yes, it was designed for it. F1.4 lets you use shorter exposures or a lower ISO than an F2.8 lens, and coma is corrected to the corners.

Can you use filters on the Sigma 14mm F1.4?

Not screw-in front filters, because the hood is built in. It has a rear holder for sheet filters.

Sigma 14mm F1.4 or Sigma 20mm F1.4?

The 14mm is wider and made mainly for night skies. The 20mm is about half the weight and takes 82mm front filters, so it is easier for general landscape work.

Can I use the Sigma 14mm F1.4 on an APS-C camera?

Yes. On a Sony APS-C body such as the a6700 it gives a field of view similar to a 21mm lens on full frame.

How heavy is the Sigma 14mm F1.4?

1160g for the Sony E version.

What comes in the box with the Sigma 14mm F1.4?

A case, a locking cover cap with filter slots, rear cap, TS-141 tripod socket, protective cover and guide plate.
