Thornfield HouseSigma 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Canon RF
Our Price: £639.00
The Sigma 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN Contemporary for Canon RF is a small ultra-wide zoom for APS-C cameras. It covers the equivalent of 16-29mm on full frame with a constant F2.8 aperture, and at 270g it weighs about the same as many standard primes. On an EOS R7, R10 or R50 it makes a light kit for landscapes, interiors, architecture and vlogging.
The optical design has 13 elements in 10 groups, including three FLD, one SLD and four aspherical elements. The large front aspherical element lets Sigma use fewer elements overall, which is a big part of why the lens is so short and light.
F2.8 stays the same through the zoom range, so exposure does not change as you zoom. It is bright enough for interiors and dusk without pushing the ISO too far, and it suits night-sky work at the wide end.
At 10mm it focuses down to 11.6cm, for a maximum magnification of 1:4. That lets you get very close to a foreground subject and still show a wide sweep of background behind it.
A stepping motor gives fast, quiet autofocus, and focus breathing is kept low, so the framing stays steady when focus shifts during video. The low weight also makes it easy to balance on a small gimbal.
This is for landscape, travel and interior photographers, and vloggers who want a wide view in a very small lens. Of these, only the R7 has in-body stabilisation. If you want an even brighter fixed lens for night skies, the Sigma 12mm F1.4 DC is the prime alternative, and the Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN picks up where this lens leaves off for a two-zoom kit.
Also available for Sony E and Fujifilm X.

It covers the same views as a 16-29mm zoom on full frame.
Yes. At 10mm it fits you and plenty of background into the frame at arm's length, and it is light enough for a small gimbal.
The 10-18mm zooms and goes a little wider. The 12mm is a fixed lens that is two stops brighter, so it is the better choice for astrophotography.
Yes, F2.8 at 10mm works for the Milky Way with a sturdy tripod. If night skies are your main subject, the 12mm F1.4 gathers more light.
No. It relies on in-body stabilisation where the camera has it.
