The Ricoh GR IV continues the legacy of the acclaimed GR-series, designed to combine uncompromising image quality with the freedom and spontaneity of a true compact camera. With a newly developed APS-C sensor, a redesigned GR lens, and faster, smarter performance, the GR IV is built for photographers who demand both portability and precision. Whether you are a professional looking for a discreet street photography tool or an enthusiast seeking a high-end travel companion, the GR IV delivers.
At the core of the GR IV lies a newly engineered GR LENS 18.3mm F2.8 (equivalent to 28mm in 35mm format), purpose-built to deliver uncompromising image performance in a slimmer body design. The optical construction includes seven elements in five groups, incorporating advanced glass-moulded aspherical and low-dispersion elements to achieve edge-to-edge sharpness and superb contrast. The large F2.8 aperture allows for impressive subject isolation and low-light shooting, while distortion and chromatic aberration are minimized, ensuring images retain natural clarity and lifelike rendering.
The GR IV introduces a back-illuminated APS-C CMOS sensor with 25.7 effective megapixels, paired with the powerful GR ENGINE 7 imaging processor. This combination elevates the camera’s image quality, producing photographs rich in detail, depth, and tonal gradation. Ricoh’s unique accelerator unit further enhances performance by optimizing signal-to-noise ratio, enabling ultra-high ISO sensitivity up to 204,800. The result is remarkably clean, sharp images even in challenging lighting conditions, giving photographers the confidence to shoot in environments where other compact cameras fall short.
To help maintain clarity in every frame, the Ricoh GR IV features a 5-axis Shake Reduction (SR) mechanism integrated into the body. This stabilization system compensates for pitch, yaw, roll, and even shift-based shake, making it highly effective for both handheld photography and macro work. With performance equivalent to six shutter steps of compensation in central image areas, the GR IV ensures blur-free results whether shooting in low light, on the move, or at slower shutter speeds.
Speed is critical for snapshot photography, and the GR IV sets a new benchmark for quick shooting. With a startup time of just 0.6 seconds, it is the fastest GR camera ever. A newly designed lens barrel and optimized control sequence allow seamless transitions between modes, including Macro shooting. The high-speed lens drive mechanism and fast image sensor readout deliver rapid, accurate autofocus, while low-light AF performance has been improved for reliable focusing in dim conditions. This makes the GR IV not only discreet and portable, but also agile enough to capture fleeting moments with ease.
True to the GR ethos, the GR IV is designed to be compact and discreet, yet rugged enough to withstand everyday use. Its body is crafted from lightweight magnesium alloy, offering durability without unnecessary weight. The slim profile makes it pocketable, while a redesigned thumb grip ensures a secure and comfortable hold during extended shooting sessions. Controls have been carefully refined, with a new dial-type ADJ lever for smoother operation and intuitive handling. The result is a camera that feels natural in the hand, built to react instantly to the photographer’s instincts.
The GR IV expands creative possibilities with an array of exposure modes, including Program AE with Auto Exposure Shift, Aperture Priority, and Shutter Priority, alongside a new Snap Distance-Priority AE mode designed for quick snapshot photography with enhanced depth of field. Photographers also gain more ways to define their style thanks to the Image Control function, which now includes a new Cinema Mode. This effect replicates the nostalgic tones of classic film with options for yellow or green hues, while parameters such as grain, contrast, and saturation can be customized. Combined with the camera’s in-camera RAW development, the GR IV gives photographers complete control over their visual expression.
Modern photographers demand fast and reliable ways to share their images, and the Ricoh GR IV delivers with dual Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi connectivity. Pairing seamlessly with mobile devices, the new GR WORLD app allows wireless image transfer, remote shooting, and GPS data syncing. Whether sharing street shots instantly to social media or transferring files for professional editing, the GR IV integrates effortlessly into your workflow.
The GR IV features a 3.0-inch high-definition LCD display with 1.04 million dots, designed for excellent visibility in any environment. Using an air gapless construction with reinforced glass, reflections and light dispersion are significantly reduced. The new Outdoor Monitor Setting automatically adjusts brightness depending on lighting conditions, ensuring clear visibility both in direct sunlight and low-light indoor shooting.
The GR IV is packed with features designed for photographers who value both convenience and control. A built-in 53GB memory provides peace of mind when shooting without an SD card, while optional accessories such as the GW-4 Wide Conversion Lens extend the angle of view to an ultra-wide 21mm. Other advanced functions include a crop mode for 35mm and 50mm focal length equivalents, a dust removal system with ultrasonic vibration and anti-stain coating, and Full HD 1080/60p video recording. Every detail has been refined to make the GR IV a camera that adapts to a wide range of shooting styles.
The Ricoh GR IV Compact Camera is more than just a point-and-shoot — it is a professional-grade creative tool hidden inside a discreet, pocketable body. With its redesigned GR lens, high-resolution APS-C sensor, advanced image stabilization, and lightning-fast autofocus, it redefines what a compact camera can achieve. For photographers who want to capture the world with precision, portability, and creative freedom, the Ricoh GR IV is the ultimate snapshot camera.
