Product Description

Nikon 300mm F4 PF is the first F-mount NIKKOR to be equipped with a phase Fresnel element. It offers the ultimate balance of compact build, telephoto reach and high image quality. Ideal for sports and wildlife photography, as well as travel shots and tight, details portraiture. The combination of f4 maximum aperture and the impressive Vibration Reduction technology produces excellent results in all conditions. The phase Fresnel lens element reduces size and weight and a fluorine coating repels water, dust and dirt for durability.

The Nikon 300mm is a great way to shoot telephoto without carrying heavy gear. The use of a Phase Fresnel (PF) lens element keeps the body compact and lightweight without dismissing image quality. The combonation of f4 maximum aperture, 300mm focal length and the impressive VR technology allows strong low-light performance and beautiful bohek effects. Nikon's renowned Vibration Reduction (VR) technology, allows impressive shooting speeds of up to 4.5 stops slower and the all-new SPORT VR mode makes it possible to pan fast-moving subjects with incredible clarity. Designed to provide a stable viewfinder image when shooting high-speed movement, SPORT mode allows a continuous shooting frame rate with reduced release time lag.

The NIKKOR 300mm f4 is the first F-mount lens to boast a phase Fresnel PF lens element. This PF element takes advantage of  the photo diffraction to compensate for chromatic aberration; it reduces the number of lens elements required to achieve high-quality results and enables the compact and lightweight build. The NIKKOR 300mm f4 comes with the new HB-73 Lens Hood and CL-M3 Lens Case. The optional RT-1 Tripod Collar Ring enabled the lens to be rotated freely for better balance and a smooth transition between vertical and horizontal orientation when using a tripod.

Bought the Nikon 300mm prime to use instead of a Tamron 100-400mm zoom for photographing dragonflies and butterflies. The larger aperture of f/4 is great for blurring the background, so I'm very pleased with the photos compared to the zoom. Autofocus seems to be faster than my zoom, so locking on to dragonflies in flight is better. I worried that I'd miss the ability to zoom in/out, but I don't miss that at all. I mostly used the zoom at max focal length anyway. The 300mm length is perfect for what I use it for, but wouldn't be long enough for birds (I have a Sigma 150-600mm for that). The 300mm lens is lightweight and compact too.
