The Kowa BD II XD 10x32 is the previous version of Kowa's mid-size 10x. It gives a 117m field of view and 1.3m close focus in a 525g body, and it has now been replaced by the BD III XD 10x32.
Replaced by the BD III
Kowa has replaced the BD II XD with the BD III XD. The optics are the same, but the BD III has new silicone eyecups, a reworked focus wheel, better grip and a lighter body. While stock lasts, the BD II is a good way to get the same view.
XD lenses
XD is Kowa's name for its extra-low dispersion glass. It reduces colour fringing around high-contrast edges, so birds against a bright sky look sharp and natural.
Waterproof magnesium body
The magnesium alloy body is waterproof and nitrogen filled, and the KR coating on the outer lenses helps water and dirt run off.
