As a glasses wearer I've found that the stock eyecups on most cameras don't work as my glasses prevent my eye getting close enough to the eyecup, so in certain circumstances flare from bright ambient light in my peripheral vision can be a nuisance.
Back in my Nikon dSLR days I used to use the DK19 eyecup, a large, round and shallow eyecup that worked very well for me and I suspect, others.
I use Fuji XT cameras too and although there are no eyecups similar to the Nikon DK19 that I've seen for the Fujis, The easily available JJC deeper eyecup is made from soft silicone so it crushes down when my glasses touch it and works fairly well.
So what's this for to do with the Hoodman eyecup? Well, I've tried several eyecups for my Nikon Z6ii, the shaped ones that extend to one side, deeper Square ones and none of them allow me to see the edges of the frame without moving my head a bit. Hoodman make a what appears to be a shallow eyecup for glasses wearers but nobody in the UK stocks them! However, this Hoodman eyecup does resemble the Nikon DK19 so I thought I'd try it.
The results are mixed. It does provide an excellent shield for peripheral light intrusion, but I can't see the edges of the frame (maybe as the EVFs has different viewing angle/magnification to the optical viewfinders) and when I move my head to look at the frame edges the bridge of my glasses catches on the edge of the eyecup! This is something that I never found using a Nikon DK19 probably as I did not have to move my head to see the frame edges. I've not noticed this issue with the soft eyecups for my Fujis.
I'm going to keep the Hoodman eyecup as I think that with more use I might just get used to it and it won't bother me, and it might be due to the frame of the glasses I'm using at the moment.
For what it is worth I'm left eyed, so I can't say if this would happen if you are right eyed.
Great product. Well made and feels like it’ll last a life time. A perfect fit on the eyecup mount and is not likely to fall off. It doesn’t disrupt or cause any issues with the eye sensor either. My only niggle is that the rubber is quite large as the picture shows, around an inch and a half along the bottom and about the same in height. While it covers the whole eye and you can still see the full viewfinder and all the data around the edges, it does still let light in where the rubber meets the eye socket though. Also note that you can’t turn the rubber 90 degrees when shouting in portrait mode.
