  • Updated Harman Phoenix 125 formulation
  • ISO 125 C41 colour negative film
  • 36 exposures per roll
  • High contrast with visible grain
  • Punchy, vibrant colour rendition
  • Distinctive analogue character
  • Practical range of EI 100–160
  • Striking halation around bright light

Harman Phoenix 125 retains the same characteristics that were loved (or disliked) about the original, but with a new speed of 125 to reflect how you preferred to shoot it!

This is Harman’s first-ever colour film, made entirely from emulsion to cassette at the Harman technology factory in Mobberley. Harman Phoenix 125 is an experimental C41 colour negative film with high contrast, strong visible grain and an unmistakably analogue character.

Its distinctive look can vary depending on the lighting, colours in the scene, and accuracy of exposure. It is particularly well suited to outdoor photography in consistent light and medium-brightness scenes, with metering for the mid-tones helping to achieve the best results. Expect punchy, vibrant colours, unusual colour rendering and the possibility of striking halation around bright light sources and reflections.

Phoenix 125 has an ISO rating of 125/22° and practical testing has shown the best results are generally achieved when rated between EI 100 and 160. Exposure bracketing is recommended when first shooting the film, particularly in bright or challenging lighting conditions.

Getting the best out of Harman Phoenix 200

  • Shoot outdoors in consistent light
  • Meter carefully for the mid-tones
  • Bracket exposures when you're getting started
  • It works best with medium-brightness scenes
  • Expect high contrast and strong visible grain
  • Bright light sources can produce halation
  • Results can vary with exposure and colour palette

What to expect

Harman Phoenix 125 is deliberately different from conventional C41 colour negative films. It does not contain an orange masking dye and has limited antihalation in the base layer. This can produce noticeable halation around bright light sources and reflections, while also contributing to its unusual colour rendering and distinctive analogue appearance.

There is also the possibility of occasional coating anomalies. Rather than being a fault to avoid, these are part of the experimental nature of Phoenix 125 and mean that every roll can produce something a little different.

Expect:

  • High-contrast images
  • Strong, visible grain
  • Punchy and vibrant colours
  • Unusual colour rendering
  • Striking halation around bright highlights
  • Possible coating anomalies
  • A distinctive analogue character
