The Dorr ZB-200 PV is a compact digital night vision binocular that lets you watch wildlife in complete darkness and record what you see. It shows colour by day and switches to a sharp black and white image at dusk and at night, using its own infrared light.
A sensitive CMOS sensor and a bright F1.4 lens work with an 850nm infrared illuminator that adjusts in 7 steps. Range is up to 500m by day and up to 200m at night, enough to watch deer at a field edge or a badger sett from a respectful distance.
You look into a 320 x 240 pixel colour display with both eyes through a large rubber eyecup shaped around your nose, which blocks stray light. Screen brightness adjusts in 9 levels, and the 2x digital zoom brings distant subjects closer.
One button takes a photo or starts a video. Photos are saved as 1280 x 1024 JPEGs and video as 640 x 480 AVI files without sound, on a micro SD or SDHC card from 4GB to 32GB (not included).
The ZB-200 PV runs on 8 AA batteries (not included) for up to 10 hours by day or about 6 hours with the infrared on. It weighs 429g without batteries and has a 1/4 inch tripod thread.
The Dorr IR-QHD records higher resolution 2.5K video, has a larger 3 inch screen and a rechargeable battery. The ZB-200 PV has the longer night range and runs on easy to replace AA batteries.
