Product Description

The Merkur 60A Telescope is ideal for enthusiasts, who are looking for a good all round telescope with a large focal length, but won't break the bank. Refracting telescopes use an objective lens to bend the light through to the eyepiece using a focal point to display the image. The Danubia Merkur (Mercury) kit has an adjustable aluminium tripod which makes it easy to use and the 5x24 finder scope, three eyepieces, a 2 x barlow lens give plenty of scope for magnifying images and the erecting eyepiece that comes with the telescope, makes sure that the image remains the right way up when viewing the night sky.

"A large focal length without breaking the bank."

The Merkur Kit also has a moon filter which is really useful when looking at a full moon, when the night sky is crystal clear. It boasts a terrific 45-454x magnification which can be expanded using a range of accessories which are sold separately, which makes this Danubia telescope the benchmark for amateur stargazers. The Super Ramsden SR4mm eyepiece will give 227x magnification on the 910mm focal length of the Merkur telescope, the Huygens eyepiece H12.5mm 72x magnification and the Huygens eyepiece H20mm, 45x magnification, so plenty of choice for weather conditions and subject viewing.

"The Merkur 60A is compact and versatile."

The 1.25inch accessory mount, is a universal size, so can take numerous accessories for easier viewing and more extensive use. The Merkur is compact enough to leave assembled at home, but can also be easily transported to other vantage points, making it very versatile. The telescope will easily pick up larger craters on the moon's surface, 2 to 3 red cloud belts of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn. Single and double stars are also visible and Andromeda can be seen depending on light pollution and atmospheric conditions. 2 year warranty included.

The Telescope was a gift for my son and I thought this model would be a good starting point for his interest in astronomy. The optics are a lot better than I expected given the price point and we soon had it set up and working. If there is one thing that might be useful it is a better description of how the various components and eyepieces work together for different types of observation, however a quick trip to the internet supplied all the necessary information. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this model for beginners in astronomy.
Absolutely delighted with this purchase!

In terms of value for money this telescope wins hands down compared to others in it's class. The magnification range is excellent for all uses, and especially good for astronomy. Relatively easy to put together and simple to use, the component parts are of good quality. The Danubia Merkur 60A Refractor Astro Telescope is both aesthetically pleasing and functional. A decent piece of kit for a very reasonable price.
