I process my images for print & - as such- I hard copy & alter the image in photoshop with reference to its reproduction on my chosen paper until I am satisfied.
Gradually, over time, you learn to make changes to the image in front of you, on the screen, that you know will enhance the printed copy.
This takes a bit of commitment - because the image can look ‘ very odd’ on the backlit monitor ( I don’t have any truck with digital soft processing - you will waste money, paper & ink ) but it works.
Hard copying doesn’t work if the paper is inconsistent
So - fundamental to all of this is a reliable, consistent, reproducible print medium.
I want to print on a fully Matt / non reflective surface - but I can’t because I have to balance the detail / dynamic range / relative saturation etc etc - & so I commit to certain papers & Canson infinity Photo Lustre Premium meets all of these compromises .
I wish it didn’t reflect as it does, I would like it to enhance the blues less?
But it doesn’t - However for detail / dynamic range / 3D / depth it is a superb paper & offers the continuity of reproduction that is essential in printing !
Continuity - Consistency - Reproduce ability - are the bench marks of a paper that will be used & re used.
You have to commit to papers - If this happens to be a paper that you commit to - you won’t be disappointed.
