Canon ES-65B Lens Hood

This is an excellent but fairly expensive lens hood. It is beautifully made and fits onto the lens with a satisfying click. Unlike all my EF lens hoods which are secured by friction into a notch (which generally works well), this RF hood has a small metal spring behind a button which requires pressing to release the hood from the lens. This means that the hood is very secure on the lens. The hood is, in my view, essential on this lens as the front elements of the lens move forward out of the main lens housing during focusing leaving this part of the lens rather exposed. The secure lens hood therefore gives some protection to these front elements against knocks. The RF 50mm/f1.8 lens itself is is incredibly sharp and excellent value which is some offset to the high price of this hood which should, in my view, be about 30% lower cost. It is so important for this lens that it should be included with the lens, but as it is not, it is worth spending the money on this very nice hood to go with this excellent lens.
