The image quality of this lens is fantastic. From my first shoot I can't see any Chromatic Aberration. Focussing is fast, smooth and silent.
I also really like the built in lens hood. The previous reviewer seemed to think that a slightly longer lens hood would solve his problems of flare. I think the Olympus engineers will have spent a lot of time designing the hood to be optimum for lens so it can't be improved.
You're obviously going to get flare if you're in bright conditions but if you can't avoid the sun I found that shading the lens with my left hand just out of shot I could get rid of the flare altogether. This means waving your arm about a bit, and people might begin looking at you, but that's a small price to pay.
If you buy this lens you'll find yourself wanting to use it more and more. I don't have any regrets at all in buying this lens, and fully expect it to last for many years. Overall, it's a tremendous performer and well worth the investment.
This lens is super-fun. Image quality is outstanding (on the EM1 MkII) and I've enjoyed the challenge of learning to see and shoot landscapes in which you need to get right up close to the 'foreground interest'. There is some distortion, but in the best way! It gets four stars instead of 5 for two reasons. 1. In certain situations, when it is sunny, it suffers from very visible flare. This is easily fixed by shooting at 8mm instead of 7mm, but still, a very slightly longer (fixed) lens hood would have solved it; 2. because of the design of the lens and the fixed lens hood (which I'd guess is all about vignetting - avoidance of) there is no filter thread on the front. This means that even a polariser is out of the question.
But - overall - did I think it was a waste of money - No! Do I love it - Yes!
