These Hawke Nature Trek 10x50 binoculars have outstanding light gathering power with the 50mm objective lenses, which make the binoculars quite big, but ensure amazing image quality, even in horrible, low lighting conditions. 10x50, is a great size to choose in binoculars, as the 10x magnification, can rob the binoculars of light, due to the large magnification, but this is counter-balanced by the wider objective lens (the one opposite to the eyepieces), which gather lots of light and is then transferred to the eye, through the glass prisms.
The shock resistant polycarbonate body, provides a robust, but lightweight pair of top-hinge binoculars and although they still weigh 812grams, the compromise between size and light gathering capabilities is fantastic. Suitable for really keen nature viewers, the Nature-Trek 10x50 model comes nitrogen purged, so that fogging is avoided and they are perfectly sealed, to make them waterproof. This is ideal, when out in pouring rain, or stepping across running brooks and means that the binoculars can be rinsed under the tap at home, after an exciting day nature watching. The inner-focus optical design helps with the water-proofing, as it means the seals can be maintained and the eyecups can be twisted up, or left down, if using the binoculars with glasses.
If spectacles or sunglasses need to be worn, then just keep the cups down, but if glasses free, then twist them up, so the rubber eyepieces fit snugly into the eye sockets. The eyecups also have a dioptre, eyesight correction capability, which is easy to set and stays in place for as long as required. Simply focus the binoculars with the main focusing wheel and then turn the dioptre ring on the right hand barrel left or right and the lenses will be corrected for either a plus or minus dioptre, giving a crisp, sharp image. Once it is set, it only needs to be moved again, if the eyesight changes.
The high resolution image ensures no details are lost when viewing at either long or short distances and the close focus of 2 meters can be really useful for wildlife that happens to be near-by. The multi-coated optics on the lenses in the Hawked Nature-Trek also help with the image quality as they tend to reduce any flare, or stray light, that bounces around on bright sunny days. Hawke have thoughtfully supplied the binoculars with a rain-guard, objective lens caps which are fixed to the body of the binoculars, so can't get lost, a neoprene strap and protective carry case.
